We had a very busy week last week!

We went to Harpenden Library on Friday, which was both very interesting and fun! The children had a chance to explore the library and the library catalogue.

In maths, we looked at multiplication and this week we move onto angles. The children have been recognising different angles and identifying them around the classroom.

Father Michael spent Thursday morning in 4A discussing communities with the children, He was very impressed with the children's behaviour and engagement throughout the lesson.

We continue looking at 'The Spiderwick Chronicles' in Literacy. Although we have finished the book we are looking back over the chapters and completing small writing activities. Today the children wrote an excuse for Jared who went to the Kitchen to find it in a complete mess. The children's excuses were both believable and funny.

Last week in Science, we started creating our own circuits. The children were given various components such as; wires, bulbs, batteries and switches to experiment making different circuits. We also had the chance to create a human circuit in the classroom. Zach and Seamus were fantastic bulbs, Oscar was our swtiches and Evie our battery. The rest of the class acted as the wires! This week we continue to look at circuits and see the effect having two bulbs has.

Have a lovely Week!

Happy New Year to you all!

It was great to see the children back after Christmas feeling refreshed and ready for the new year.

We have started our new topic on ‘The Tudors’  and have already had many children bringing in interesting facts and books. In the upcoming weeks we are going to look in more detail about Henry VIII and his six wives.

In English, the children have been very enthusiastic starting our new book ‘The Spiderwick Chronicles’. The children thoroughly enjoyed role playing some of the scenes and using hot seating to get to know the characters.

In maths, we have been looking at column subtractions and revising our 7 times-table. The children have come up with some fantastic rhymes to help them remember particular multiplication facts- ‘wakey wakey rise and shine 7 x 7 is 49’.

Electricity is our new topic in Science. This week we have looked at different household appliances and grouped them into mains and battery powered.  Next week we will start to look at simple circuits and will have the chance to create some of our own.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend!
