Hi all,

Hope you all had a lovely half term! The children have certainly all come back refreshed and eager to learn.

As part of our PHSE unit the children designed their own garden gadget. The children had to work in groups to design and annotate the gadget. They had to also look at target audience, unique selling point and price. We then had a 'Dragons Den' style presentation where the groups had to come and pitch their gadget.

We have started a new non fiction topic in Literacy called 'The Incredible Sport'  We have looked at Disc Golf and the children all participated in a fun quiz to see how much they could remember. In the upcoming weeks we will be looking at bossaball and joggling.

In Maths this week we have been looking at decimals. The children have been comparing and ordering decimals and had a go at rounding them to the nearest whole number. Next week, we begin to look at adding amounts of money.

Our new science topic is 'sound' and the children enjoyed playing sound bingo. They had to listen very carefully to various sound clips and then tick them off on their bingo grids when they heard them. The children also had a go at exploring different sound stations around the classroom. They had lots of objects to explore and they had to think about how the sound was being made.

Our Class Mass takes place this Friday (26th February). We would love it if you could join us.

We have had a very busy few weeks.

In maths, we have been looking at parallel and perpendicular lines and the children created some fantastic dance moves to learn them. We have also been looking at different division techniques.

In English, we have finished our topic 'The Spiderwick Chronicles'. The children thoroughly enjoyed the book with many buying other books in the series and watching the film at home. The children have created a new episode for 'The Spiderwick Chronicles', using the same characters but a new setting. We have spent a lot of time looking at describing a setting, using our five senses. The children particularly enjoyed describing a secret picture and the rest of the class trying to draw what they were describing. We have also been looking at conjunctions and the children played conjunction tennis with a partner.

In science, we have been continuing on with our topic 'electricity' . Last week we were looking at insulators and conductors. The children tested a variety of materials to see if they would be conductors or insulators.

Yesterday, we created some very colourful Chinese dragons to celebrate Chinese new year. We looked at the New year story and ways in which it is celebrated. Some of the children discussed their own experiences and ways in which they celebrate Chinese New Year.
